Tulou

Tulou, also known as the Ancient Castle in the East, are the vernacular Hakka clay dwellings in the mountainous areas in some provinces of China. The history of Tulou can date back to the 12th century.

These buildings are built for defensive purposes. Therefore, the structure resembles a small fortified city and you may only find one entrance and windows to the outside above the first floor.
